Working to Make Every Home a Warm One

Last year, the cost of heating a home soared. And while government programs like the

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and charitable initiatives helped those

in need pay for heat, it became obvious that the rising costs of energy threaten to overwhelm this

system in the years to come.

The HeatSmart Campaign was created to complement heating assistance programs by helping

Americans heat their homes more efficiently. This requires a combination of educational initiatives

and material aid. For example, turning down the thermostat at night is an obvious cost-cutting measure, but people need to

feel comfortable and warm when they sleep. Education alone will not bring people to lower the temperature. So we endeavor

to put warm, woolen blankets in the hands of people who otherwise would keep the heat up out of necessity.

To support this effort, we are looking for corporate, government and charitable partners who share our

concern about heating costs. Together, we can expand the reach of our blanket distribution program, and add other tools

that can help people be more efficient with their heating dollar.
